“Marriage is the only war where you sleep with the enemy”
I’ve always sort of toyed with the idea of getting married at the cottage but once we decided on a winter wedding, I came to the realization that I was one hundred percent not willing to risk the sanity (& lives) of our guests by forcing them to drive for 3+ hours on icy, winding roads in the dead of winter. I’m a somewhat reasonable Bridezilla. SO I therefore tasked myself with the daunting duty of selecting a venue that had elegant, rustic cottage elements RIGHT here in the good ol’ GTA. I quickly discovered that although this is completely DOABLE there really aren’t a lot of great resources for brides-to-be on this super specific subject – Google surprisingly dropped the ball – so I decided to create my very own guide in the hopes of fulfilling other cottage-obsessed brides’ wildest, northern wedding dreams.
8 Cottage Wedding Venues in the GTA
McMichael Art Gallery – Kleinburg, Ontario
I mean I may be a TAD bias, but McMichael Art Gallery tops this list para moi! This venue may not come equip with a lake, but the sprawling forests, wood beams, log sidings & stone walls will definitely give you that Great North feel! Not to mention, the gallery itself is filled with lakeside landscapes painted by Canadian artists.
The Henley Room – Toronto, Ontario
I think that what I love most about this specific wedding venue is that it’s such a blank canvas… you can truly make this space your own. Also – the Lake Ontario views are breathtaking & I almost can’t EVEN with that gorgeous river rock fireplace.
Glenerin Inn – Mississauga, Ontario
I would book this venue solely on the service alone… they are SO flexible! Like the McMichael Art Gallery, this venue is “sans lake” but the forests, grounds & rustic interior make up for it in a big way! Think beautiful exposed beams & stone fireplaces in almost every single room! Andrei & I were SO close to booking this venue but unfortunately space limitations prevented us from doing so.
The Royal Canadian Yacht Club – Toronto, Ontario
OMG… can we talk about the views from the RCYC?! Beautiful is an understatement! This place feels more like a gorgeous, Southern Lake Estate than anything else but I mean you could go to TOWN on the whole nautical, sailor theme – serious lakeside perfection!
Ward’s Island Clubhouse – Toronto, Ontario
The gorgeous turquoise-y colour of the Ward’s Island Clubhouse makes my heart go pitter patter… swoon! Lake views: Check. Exposed beams: Check. Mounted antlers: Check. I mean, this is quite possibly THE place to have a cottage wedding in the heart of Toronto! Click HERE for photos!
Kortright Centre – Woodbridge, Ontario
This venue literally has a ceremony space called Cathedral of Trees…. ie. this location is perfect for an enchanted forest wedding theme. No lake at this venue, but literally everything ELSE makes up for it!
Sunnyside Pavilion – Toronto, Ontario
This space is PERFECT because it’s a covered, outdoor LAKESIDE wedding venue! AKA you don’t have to worry about the weather! I’m particularly obsessed with the wood vaulted ceilings & open airy feel of the venue. PLUS – it’s the in heart of Toronto! Click HERE for photos!
Holland Marsh Wineries – Newmarket, Ontario
This venue reminds me of the beautiful, log cabin cottages you see up in Muskoka. I was literally blown away by how gorgeous this venue space is! There isn’t a lake, however there IS a small pond & the venue is situated on gorgeous vineyards & there is this beautiful stone fireplace on the outdoor patio! I mean what’s more “cottage” than roasting s’mores on the fire?
