Eco-Friendly Gift Wrapping

“A gift consists not in what is done or given, but in the intention of the giver”

AHHH. Okay so first off, to be quite frank… I was super skeptical as to how this whole newspaper doubling as wrapping paper situation would turn out, but I am actually blown away if I do say so myself! It is SO chic, yet simultaneously cost-effective & environmentally friendly which to me, is a win-win situation for all parties involved. I’ve been absolutely dying to try that environmentally friendly, rustic brown paper bag gift wrap that’s been blowing up Instagram over the past two Christmases, but thought I’d put my own little twist on it! Green Christmas: Eco-Friendly Gift Wrapping Ideas

While it’s true that Christmas may very well be the most wonderful time of the year, it’s also notorious for being one of the more wasteful times of the year too. Did you know that Canadians produce 545,000 tonnes of waste solely from gift wrapping & shopping bags each year?! YES… this according to the B.C Recycling Council. That my friends, is absolutely insane! So in an effort to combat this sticky little situation us Canucks have gotten ourselves into, I decided to delve into the world of DIY Eco-Friendly Gift Wrap!

Newspaper Gift Wrap

Over the next couple of weeks, begin saving up your Newspapers to use for gift wrap on Christmas! Look for pages of either full text, crossword puzzles or sudoku & comic strips (great for the kiddos), or the Life & Style sections for unique, bright pictures of art! It’s honestly extremely versatile & you can really create several unique, yet fabulous sets of gift wrapping! Hot Tip: PLEASE be sure to read the text prior to wrapping your gifts… positive news stories only… let’s keep it “Merry” folks, it is Christmas after all!

In terms of the bow, I went with this re-usable festive bright red, for a pop of colour! If you’re going for a more chic look… just envision how fabulous a black bow would look! Loves it.
