Halloween Treats: Organic Chocolate Bars

“Trick or Treat, Smell my Feet, Give me Something Good to Eat!”

This past weekend I had the excruciatingly difficult task of consuming copious amounts of  chocolate in order to write this post just for you guys! You’re welcome! As I’m sure you’re more than well aware, Whole Foods can sometimes be a bit of a budget buster; to be honest it was the sole reason why I didn’t buy their entire stalk of chocolate bars (sooooooo many different flavours! Drool.) I therefore thought it would be useful to test out & rank some different  flavours so you could get the most value for your dollar… just in time for Halloween!

Chocolate Bar Showdown – The Contestants

From Left-Right: 1. Squeeze it Up – Orange & Ginger, 2. Theo – Chili, 3. Alter Ego – Mint. Side Note: all pictured chocolate is certified organic!

The Breakdown! (From Favsies to not so Favsies)

1. Alter Ego: Dark Organic Chocolate – Mint Flavour: Loved it! Very reminiscent of your classic Girl Guide Mint cookies. To be fair, chocolate & mint just so happens to be my absolute favourite combination of life, so this is perhaps a bit bias but none-the-less it was the best out of the three for me! Cocoa beans are grown in Ecuador & then shipped off to Switzerland for roasting! (what a well-traveled cocao bean) Fun Fact: this company is environmentally friendly too! They work together with the Acopagro Co-Op & Objective Carbon Zero to help replenish the Amazon canopy. Delicious & Environmental! How fab! Price: $3.99

2. Theo: Chili & Dark Chocolate: Okay so this one was not my favourite flavour, however I can acknowledge that someone who enjoys a bit of a kick to their food (which I do NOT) would love this. They are most definately not lacking in the chili department over at the Theo chocolate factory; they use 3 different kinds of chili powder to achieve that kick: ancho, guajillo, & cayenne! So although I didn’t quite enjoy this bar due to personal taste, I’d love to give a different flavour a try because they’re clearly not afraid to  amp up your taste buds (which is why I ranked it as number 2). Beans come from Peru to Domican Republic to Panama… and MORE!  Price: $3.99

3. Squeeze: Orange & Ginger: I was a bit disappointed in this one 🙁 – which is sad because I was looking forward to it the most! The orange flavour was definately there, but I struggled to find the ginger; I could barely taste it! Side Note: I feel like I’m judging an episode of “Chopped”. And at $4.29 it was the most expensive! What’s good? It is vegan & glutton free friendly so most people are able to eat it. So although I loved the orange flavour (think Terry’s Chocolate Orange), I really missed out on that ginger & therefore had to rank it number 3.

Happy Trick or Treating!

Useful review, thank you. For sure, it deserves to be tried at least once.
