“Warning! Bridezilla on the loose. Speak to at own risk. May lash out irrationally (without provocation)”
Want to know how I feel about wedding planning at the moment? It makes me want to literally rip out every single individual hair follicle from my scalp one by one until I am left with a glistening skull that rivals that of my handsome fiancés’ :). The amount of electromagnetic radiation my eyeballs have been exposed to because of online venue searching alone is likely enough to induce permanent retina damage. So, if you’d like to venture down this little rabbit hole of Wedding Planning Hell with me, then please, I absolutely implore you to continue reading… try to enjoy it.
Veil Shopping & a Bubbly Bridal Brunch
Okay so I’m being a little extra.. it’s not ALL bad. I did have a few Wedding Planning “ups” this month… so I thought I’d start off this recap with just a tad bit of positivity before delving right into the negative!! My friends threw me literally the BEST Sunday Bridal Brunch at Cluny’s a couple of Sundays ago! I always sort of felt like I didn’t want to be the bride that craves attention, but I am now one hundred percent certain that I want everyone to shower me with love & affection at all times, all year round right up until the wedding day.
Our Sunday began with my small, but mighty, wedding party of three! We ventured to Kleinfeld’s to try on veils & shop for wedding accessories. This was originally supposed to be a wedding dress appointment, but seeing as I how I already found the dress we swapped it for an accessories appointment a few weeks earlier! I still very much wanted that “Kleinfeld Moment” with my bridesmaids & I’m happy that I got it…. even if the “Kleinfeld Moment” comes with a bit of a hefty price tag – $700 for a veil? Uhm… moving on, I’ll actually be seeing you never.
Next we made our way to Cluny’s in the Distillery District where we were joined by all of my totally wonderful friends & they SPOILED me with champagne & balloons & flowers – it literally made me ugly cry – a la Kim Kardashian West – in my “thank-you toast” & I couldn’t even get out everything that I wanted to say! I was just so appreciative that these people that I thankfully get to call friends were able to carve time out of their busy days to come & celebrate me. One of my friends actually couldn’t be there because she was too busy getting friggin’ ENGAGED herself in South Africa, so she had the waiter bring over a bottle of champagne to the table! I mean… no words.
The Venue Hunt Has Officially Come to a Standstill
OMG – how is he so handsome?!
If I hear the word “venue” one more time, I will rip out my ear canals. Side Note: we’re now entering the negative bit. We’re at a total & utter standstill in regards to finding the venue & I honestly don’t know exactly where to go from this point forward. I feel like we’ve completely exhausted every single space that I believe would be in line with the winter wedding vision I’ve dreamt up, so we’re both kind of at a loss. I’m not sure if my issue is that I’m viewing each of these spaces with “Pinterest Goggles” & just can’t see the potential… OR if the problems that we’re encountering are an actual deal breaker… ie. one venue’s reception room isn’t big enough for a dance floor so it’s in an entirely different space, one venue’s last call is at midnight (NEXT), some spaces are just seriously dated, others won’t let us bring in Romanian Pastries, a few of the venues’ had an insane amount of hidden fees & I mean the list goes on, & on & ON.
These photos are from the Glenerin Inn! This is where we are both dying to have our wedding! It couldn’t be more perfect – it’s like being transported to the English Countryside. BUT the reception room is too small for a dance floor.. so the dancing is in another room. Am I crazy? Is it really that big of a deal?
For me.. the perfect venue is honestly everything. In my opinion, it’s THE most important part of achieving your wedding day vibe & I think that’s why I’m feeling so much pressure. Not to mention, you’re spending a pretty substantial chunk of change on the venue (it will likely be your biggest cost of the wedding) so sue me if I want to really love the thing I’m spending a small fortune on!
It’s incredibly frustrating because I know who I want my photographer & florist to be, how I want my centrepieces, stationary etc. All that’s left is the actual venue itself. I feel like I almost need to unfollow every single Wedding Instagram Account in order to clear my head, remove the “Pinterest Goggles” & go into these spaces with an openmind. Stay tuned… although I’m really not hopeful tbh.
Side Note: if any of you know of a rustic venue (not a barn, it’ll be winter) that can fit about 100ish guests – PLEASE let me know! I’m looking for rustic English or European countryside vibes please & thanks!!!
