Although it legitimately pains me to accept that winter – or whatever warped smorgasbord of weather we were just subjected to over the past three months – is coming to a close, I am hesitantly excited for spring/summer & what it has to offer. I say hesitantly only because spring – for lack of a better word – SUCKS in my personal opinion, due to overly glutinous levels of rain, mud & all things “yuck” – it’s sole redeeming quality is that my birthday just so happens to be in April, & for those who’ve been following along for a while now – well, you know this is my absolute favourite day of the year! Anywho – I’m doing my best to embrace all things spring by looking forward to new styles & trends, because with a change in season, comes changes in our health & beauty routines!  Weather definitely has an impact on our skin & obviously plays an influential role in our style selections, so with a few minor adjustments here & there, I’m showing you how to be “spring ready” come March 20th

I wanted to outline a few different categories & provide a general overview of what transitioning from winter to spring would look like for each particular one; I felt that a little chart action would be best to showcase these differences!

How to Make a Smooth Transition

Winter Spring
Hair Winter is all about the darker, structured & more glam hairstyles! In my personal opinion, there’s something a bit more formal about winter – I’m thinking glossy curls, structured braids, sleek straight hair or a fabulous updo.


Products to consider: ABBA has a couple of ecofriendly, plant based & natural styling products like the volume gel, thermal protect, texture gel & style gel that would be perfect for creating sleek, glossy looks!

I’m obsessed with the more casual, lighter vibe of spring; mostly because there is a tad bit less effort involved in these particular hairstyles! Dishevelled buns or ponytails & beachy waves will play up the flirty factor that comes with this season.


Products to consider: Lately I’ve been looking into a more natural alternative to colouring my hair & I may have found a product! It’s called Herbatint, & it’s free from fragrance, parabens ammonia & alcohols. I’ll let you know my exact thoughts if I give this one a go, but if you’re lightening your hair for the warmer months, this may be something to consider!

Skin Heavier skin creams are a bit more appropriate for the dry, winter months. High winds & extremely cold temperatures can definitely take its toll on our skin (red/raw skin anyone?), so it’s important to utilize products that help properly nourish our biggest organ!


Products to consider: The Boreal line from Green Beaver is literally made for Canadian winters!! I’m actually not joking – it’s exactly why this product was made! It absorbs quickly & helps to replenish the moisture in your skin!

Helloooo sunshine! As we transition to sunnier, warmer months we should start to consider our products & whether or not they contain any protection against the sun! Also – due to the harsh, winter temperatures & the toll it takes on our skin, be sure to consider a skincare routine that helps to regenerate skin cells!


Products to consider: I’m seriously crushing on Andalou Naturals Coconut Quenching skincare line! This particular line helps to balance your skin’s pH levels, & helps replenish parched or depleted skin cells. Plus, the sole fact that this line contains coconut stem cells will surely help you get into the sunshine mood!

Nails The darker, the better when it comes to winter nails! There was a time in my life where I could go seriously do a matte black nail year round & be completely satisfied – thankfully I’ve broadened my horizons in the nail department but I DO appreciate darker vibes from time to time.


Products to consider: Red, Red Wine, Cinnamon Girl or London Tomboy from the non-toxic Nail Polish line Pacifica are perfect for winter!

I’ve recently developed a strong appreciation for lighter colours or nudes – I think they embody a very clean, put together look! So I will most definitely be rocking the nudes a LOT now that spring is coming! Pretty pastels are also perfect for this time of the year!


Products to consider: Purple Haze, Blushing Bunnies, Immortal, Pink Moon or Unicorn from Pacifica all scream Spring!

Food & Drinks What I’m most sad to be leaving behind this winter are the foods & drinks! I love the heavier, stick-to-your-bones comfort foods that come with winter months or the nourishing bone broths that almost warm you from the inside out! Also – root vegetable soups are like, my jam!


Recipes to consider: Try this warm winter salad, this sweet potato & apple soup or this two ingredient hot chocolate!

Lighter salads & fun, summer cocktails are just on the horizon! And although they’re not quite as fun as winter foods, I’m still totally okay with toasting spring with a fabulous, light cocktail.. or two!


Recipes to consider: Try this natural juice popsicle, this green “spring clean” smoothie, or this jam cocktail! ALSO, I recently went to the opening of spinning studio, Cycle Bar & they served SoCIAL LITE Vodka – which is a ready-to-drink sparkling vodka cocktail that contains no artificial flavours, no sweetener & no sugar! It is DELICIOUS & a fabulous alternative to those super sugary coolers! I loved it!

Fitness I am kind of a Fitness Class junkie, so in the winter months, you’ll likely find me in any given workout class – likely hot yoga- OR getting my HIIT on at the treadmill in the gym!


Workouts to consider: Here are some of my favourite Youtube Workout Videos, & if you’d like to try & brave the cold temperatures – here’s a couple of tips on how to run outside during the winter!

I love getting outside in the spring/summer! So I try to move my workouts to the great outdoors! I’ll also turn to things like hiking, canoeing or kayaking to fit in a little bit of extra fitness.


Workouts to consider: Beach season is well on its way, so I always turn to my favourite fitness guru Abi Roman for some ab workout inspo! If you’d like to try out some hiking, here are my favourite spots in TO, & here are a few ways to fit in some fitness during the long weekends this summer!
