Halloween Themed Walks & Runs in Ontario

“It’s as much fun to scare as to be scared”

Vincent Price

Call me crazy, but I LOVE being scared! In fact horror movies & Gothic literature are my absolute JAM… during my stint at Western University, I even enrolled in a few elective courses specializing in this very genre! So when Halloween rolls around, I completely immerse myself into all things horror. I therefore found it appropriate to also incorporate a little spooky, festive fun into my fitness routine… & yours! Below I’ve compiled a list of some Halloween themed walks, runs & hikes across Ontario to help keep you active during this ghoulish month!

1. Monster Dash

Whata family friendly event that consists of a 5km & 10km walk/run or a “Spooky Mile” for participants under the age of 12. Participants are encouraged to wear a costume (although not mandatory) in order to be eligible for prizes in best costume, scariest costume, best group/team costume & even more!!!! There’s EVEN a post race party with food… sold! Any donations & pledges from the event go to the World Wildlife Fund.

2. Haunted City Walks

WhatMost cities have tour companies that offer walking ghost tours! This is SUCH a unique & interesting way to learn more about the history of your city! The Haunted Walk (based in Ottawa, Kingston, & Toronto) even offers Halloween specific versions of their tours, which you can find here!

WhereCheck your local listings! I’ve seen various tour companies advertised in London, Guelph, Toronto, & Kitchener!

When: Will vary based on city & tour company

3. Hike on Haunted Hill at Blue Mountain

WhatParticipants can either take a self-guided hike or purchase tickets to a guided “performance hike” on haunted hill;  there’s a promise of spooky surprises around every corner! Additionally, there’s an ENTIRE weekend dedicated to family filled Halloween fun. Pumpkin carving, face painting, dances, carnivals… need I say more?!

4. The Running Dead – 5km Zombie Fun Run

What: A 5km obstacle run… did I mention that some of these “obstacles” are zombies?! YIKES! You’ll be running through the trails & parks of Canatara, all the while trying to dodge the hordes of zombies who are just dying to convert you to their ranks of the “undead”. Participants can either register as a zombie or a runner! There’s also a kid run/walk for those aged 4-10! This looks SERIOUSLY cool you guys.
