Killer Halloween Party Themes

“You say witch like it’s a bad thing…”

I wish I was exaggerating when I say that a good majority of my life is consumed with intrusive thoughts of planning a perfectly executed Halloween Party. Sadly… I’m one hundred percent NOT exaggerating. From the invitations to the table settings, I begin planning my annual Hallo-weekend parties one year in advance, & it all starts with a killer Halloween Party Theme! Now with Halloween being just over one month away – good Lord this is already happening WAY too quickly – I thought that I would share some of my favourite Halloween Party Theme concepts that I’ve been storing away for future use!!! So if you’re planning on throwing a spooky soiree this year… read below!

Thirteen Killer Halloween Party Themes

Side Note: I also wish that I could say that I intentionally included 13 party ideas – but that was purely coincidence.

Creepy Carnival

I had SO much fun with this theme. It was inspired by American Horror Story: Freak Show. I filled frames with vintage black & white carnival photos, created a concession stand filled with bloody cookie fingers & had guests dress up as their favourite carnival characters! Click HERE for details!

Edgar Allen Poe

This was the theme of my very FIRST Halloween Party! The key? Lots of ravens (DUH), skulls and tea-stained burnt scrolls! I even wrote horror movie trivia on the burnt scrolls for guests to complete throughout the evening.

Voodoo on the Bayou or Murder at Mardi Gras

Drum roll please…. Voodoo on the Bayou is my theme for THIS years’ party! I’ve always been super intrigued by the mysteries surrounding New Orleans & Bayou lore, & when I visited the Jazz Captial of the World two years ago I knew that I HAD to create a theme dedicated specifically to this incredible city! I don’t want to give too much away – so stay tuned!

Happily N’ever After; Fairytales Gone Wrong

This has been my favourite theme to date! The table setting was by FAR the prettiest one I have ever done. I tied in a few different fairy tales into this setting. I wanted the infamous rose from Beauty &  the Beast to be the centrepiece, the ravens on either side of the rose are a nod to Maleficent’s pet raven, Diablo, those STUNNING candle holders which bear the apple are of COURSE representative of The Evil Queen & the Poisonous Apple in Snow White! FINALLY, I concocted a blue shot for each guest & served them in vials on each of their plates that were almost IDENTICAL to the “Drink Me” glasses in Alice in Wonderland! Want deets? Click HERE!

Zombie Wedding

I’m not too crazy about zombies (I think I’m the only person on the planet who doesn’t watch The Walking Dead), but I feel like a Zombie Wedding theme would just be so cool! Zombie brides, grooms, bridesmaids, groomsmen, officiant, flower girl…. the options are endless! ALSO! Methinks a bloody, brainy wedding cake is a TOTAL  must!

Nightmare before Christmas

I have been toying with this idea for literally YEARS! I think that I will finally go for it next year. I keep envisioning this beautiful, lit up Halloween Chritsmas Tree surrounded by presents filled with fake body parts & “toys gone wrong“. I’m feeling like a goregous paper mache creation of Hushabye Mountain would make for a pretty cool table centrepiece too! Not to mention… the costumes for this particular theme would just be SO much fun! How cute would a “Zero” costume be?!

Haunted Dollhouse

Dolls have always been particulalry creepy to me. You could fill your home with vantriliquest dummies, or eerie dolls & have your guests dress up as dolls too! I’m not entirely sure HOW you would pull this theme off decor wise – but I think that it would be a pretty darn fun one to tackle!

Mad Scientist

Michaels ALWAYS sells these really cool beakers & chemistry kits around Halloween time & I think that they would make for the PERFECT table centrepiece for a Halloween Mad Scientist dinner party! Fill each beaker with a different colour liquid, & floating fake body parts. You could also have so much fun with cocktails & foods too!

Alien Invasion

Turn your home into a spaceship! Break out all of your Christmas lights to light your home up like an incoming flying saucer. You could also create an Area 51 Vibe by cloaking your furniture or tabletops with white linens & then have aliens laying on them surrounded by medical supplies & beakers as if they’re undergoing some form of surgical procedures!

Haunted Hotel

Another American Horror Story inspiration! Can you tell it’s one of my favourite shows? I’m envisioning that a hotel front desk, equip with a skeleton dressed as a doorman would be just THE perfect entryway to this particular party!! Each of the hotel key slots could be filled with vintage keys, rats, mice etc. Your guests could dress up as the twins from The Shining, Jack or Lady Gaga as The Countess!

Willy Wonka

This could be taken either two ways! You could go the fun, whimsical route with lots or bright colours & candies & sunshine OR you could take this down a completely different, twisty road & put a dark spin on this classic! I actually can’t decide which one I would prefer but I think that both options could be really so much fun to try out!

Frightening Flicks

Have horror movies streaming on the big screen all night long, & ask each of your guests to come dressed up as their favourite horror movie character. Decor could be super fun with this too! You could incorporate decor inspired from a slew of  various Horror Movies like Camp Crystal Lake, brain teaser games inspired by SAW, drink “human blood” a la Dracula! This could be SUPER cool.

Dead Man Walking – Pirate Theme

How COOL would it be to send invitations using a “message in a bottle” for this particular theme?! Create an overflowing treasure chest surrounded by candles as your table centrpiece & scatter skeleton priates EVERYWHERE throughout your home! You could also include SO many fun, pirate-inspired rum cocktails.

What are some of your favourite Halloween Party themes?!
