NBA All-Star 2016; Breakfast with Legends

“If all I’m remembered for is being a good basketball player, then I’ve done a bad job with the rest of my life”

Isaiah Thomas

From hosting the Pan Am Games to NBA All-Star Weekend, this is turning out to be an incredibly substantial year for Toronto in the athletic arena! I was actually lucky enough to attend events on both occasions, more recently the NBA All-Star Breakfast hosted by Athletes in Action (AIA) & the National Basketball Retired Players Association (NBRPA)! To say that it was an incredible morning would be a gross understatement… so naturally I decided to blog about it!

The AIA & NBRPA

OKAY, where to even begin?! For those of you that don’t know, AIA & the NBRPA host an annual breakfast during All-Star weekend to recognize retired players that exhibit outstanding character, leadership & faith… both on & off the court!! The association presents two awards:

1. The Bobby Jones Award – presented to retired NBA player, Dell Curry for accomplishments during his 16 year NBA career & charitable contributions to the community of Charlotte. He’s also the proud papa of three children… including NBA player Seth & reigning NBA, MVP champ Steph Curry, who YES was at the breakfast! GAH!

2. The Jerry Colangelo Award – presented to retired referee Dick Bavetta for officiating a record of 2,635 consecutive NBA games (insane) & establishing a scholarship program for minority high-school students.

Both recipients had wonderful speeches. Bavetta was hilarious & it’s clear that he’s had a very profound affect on the entire league… even scoring a heart-felt video message from former NBA commissioner, David Stern!

Breakfast with Legends

The room was filled to the brim with media, players & all kinds of NBA VIP’s! One notable guest was Torontonian favourite, Jerome Williams AKA Junkyard Dog AKA JYD, who obviously was greeted by an endearing round of “barking” from the crowd. Not going to lie, I totally felt like Miss. Fancy Pants!! 😛

The actual breakfast itself was great, but to be honest I was too busy “fan-girling” over various members of the crowd to really appreciate the meal. For those who know me, I’m sure you can appreciate that statement… for those that don’t, I have an abnormal obsession with good food.

In between being completely starstruck & eating breakfast, I did manage to snag a few shots which you can check out bellow! Forewarning: I’m SO sorry for the poor quality of photos! I hadn’t originally planned on blogging the event, so I wasn’t focused on taking pictures! My inner, “blogging-perfectionist” is SCREAMING!
