“The book is called opportunity, & its first chapter is New Years Day”
– Edith Pierce
December 31st, 2013: stuck in a ditch, in the middle of nowhere, by myself… joy. I’m already NOT the biggest “New Years Eve” groupie, so when my car spun out en route to a party, I literally wanted to bypass all that 2014 had to offer & dive straight into 2015. To give you a bit of a back story, the past two years had been a total & complete utter bust; everything in my life was changing & none of it was for the better. So I saw the accident as an omen that I was destined for yet another terrible & overly underwhelming year. Aren’t I just a little ray of sunshine?! However, one slightly awkward car ride with a tow truck driver & several glasses of champagne later, I had a new lease on life & had declared 2014 to be my year of “YOLO” – AKA: you only live once (for you mom, if you’re reading this). I had decided that I would say yes to everything.. no matter how uncomfortable, squeemish, or scared something made me feel. Thankfully, 2014 has probably turned out to be the absolute BEST year of my entire life! So forgive me, but I’m proud & want to brag a little 🙂
I’m nearly 110% positive that if you look up the word “Homebody” in the dictionary, you’d see my face glaring back at you. So I don’t think that anybody was more surprised than myself to find that 2014 took me to Florida, Bahamas, Cleveland, Peru, & Cuba. I feel so incredibly grateful that I had the opportunity to make so many memories all over the world with some of the most special people in my life. Highlight: Hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu to raise money for The Sanfilippo Children’s Research Foundation.
Searching for Alligators in the everglades
Swimming with Sharks in Bahamas
Road trips to Cleveland, Ohio
Reaching Machu Picchu
Sunrise in the Amazon Jungle
Hiking through the Cuban rain-forest
Warning: you may have the urge to roll your eyes &/or gag… I know I would. 😉
This year, I had the absolute pleasure of celebrating one year with my boyfriend, whom I genuinely believe is one of the greatest men on the entire planet (aside from my father of course). First off, the man is hilarious; he’s essentially a walking comedy act & always knows how to keep a constant smile on my face. He is the epitome of an old-school, chivalrous gentleman, yet he continuously pushes me to be a strong, successful, & powerful woman. I pinch myself everyday that I’m with him, because he makes me feel like I’m living out my very own, real life fairy-tale. Highlight: Everyday.
Celebratory dinner at the CN Tower
First time flyer for his birthday this year
Lazy summer days
Family is my everything; they are my absolute WORLD. I had a wonderful year with my family & am MORE than thankful for the opportunities they’ve blessed me with this year (namely sending my brother & I to Peru for the trip of a lifetime). This year my family said goodbye to our home of 20 plus years & moved to Toronto. It’s been an adjustment, but we’ve grown to love the area, especially our daily walks in Sunnybrook Park. Highlight: Spending my dad’s birthday on a catamaran in Florida
Daily walks with my mom
Dinner with my brother in Peru
Dad & Andrei at the cottage
Finally, this year I launched my blog Healthy, Happy, & Hilarious. I know it sounds cheesy & lame, but this has been a bit of a dream come true. Up until two years ago, writing has been a constant in my life; from jotting down short stories in my teens, taking creative writing courses in high-school, to writing for Grapevine Magazine at Western. I’ve always had this undying love for writing (call me a nerd, but I think it’s totally romantic). Unfortunately when life took a turn for the worse, so did my passion for writing. It wasn’t until January of 2014 that I slowly began to toy with the idea of writing again; specifically a blog. Thankfully, my amazingly, wonderful boyfriend pushed & pushed & pushed.. & now here we are! I could NOT imagine not writing weekly posts for HHH. I’ve never felt more happy or more fulfilled in my entire life & it fills my heart with joy to read/hear comments from all of you; so sincerely, thank-you so much. I’m completely boggled, humbled, & grateful to have readers from all over the world.
And so, 2014 is coming to an end. I’m extremely proud to close this chapter of my life & beyond excited to start the next one (seriously you guys, I have so many ideas & plans for HHH & 2015 my head could EXPLODE). I wish you nothing but love, health, happiness, & peace in your upcoming year! May all of your dreams come true.
